Meet Lauren Blake
Lauren Blake is the heroine of Empire of Sterling but she’s not the kind of woman who waits to be rescued.
As the founder of Liora, a femtech company with a deeply personal mission, Lauren has spent years fighting to be taken seriously where people underestimate her. She knows what it feels like to have to prove herself twice as hard. She knows how to smile through pressure, hold her nerve in difficult meetings, and keep going even when the odds are stacked against her.
On paper, she looks like she has everything under control. But don’t we all?
In reality, Lauren is carrying old wounds she would rather not examine too closely.
Her father’s betrayal left her with a complicated relationship with trust. She does not like secrets. She does not like being managed or feeling out of control. And she really does not like discovering that the man she has started to fall for is not quite who she thought he was.
That is what makes Max Sterling so dangerous to her.
Not because he is a billionaire.
Not because he is powerful.
Not even because she might have to give up control of her company to him.
Max is dangerous because Lauren meets him before she understands who he really is. Before the boardrooms. Before the takeover. Before the money and power and corporate stakes get tangled between them.
For a little while, he is simply Max.
The man on the Tube who sees her when she is vulnerable. The man who makes her laugh when she does not expect to. The man who looks at her as if she is not a problem to be solved, but a woman he genuinely wants to know.
And for Lauren, that is far more unsettling than wealth because she reveals the real her too.
I loved writing Lauren because she is strong without being invulnerable. She is capable, but not untouched. She can argue across a boardroom table, swim at Tooting Lido, build a company from scratch, and still be completely undone by the fear of trusting the wrong person.
She does not need Max to save her.
But she does need to decide whether loving him means losing control — or finally letting someone stand beside her.
If you love ambitious heroines, hidden identity, emotional betrayal, London glamour, corporate tension and billionaire romance where the heroine gives as good as she gets, I think you will love Lauren Blake.
You can meet Lauren in Empire of Sterling, book one in the Lords of London series.
