Attending my first author conference

Last week I attended my first author conference. I went to SPS Live in London, an event for indie authors and self-publishers. I’ve had tickets before, but wasn’t able to make it at the last minute. I was so excited to finally attend.

It was a two-day event at County Hall - right on the south bank of the Thames and next to the London Eye. There were lots of photo opportunities!

Writing can be a private thing, though it doesn’t feel private as I feel like I am constantly having conversations in my head. But publishing is different. Publishing means learning, connecting, taking the work seriously, and slowly building something beyond the page. It was a great opportunity to hear from the leaders in the field. I also had the chance to meet some other billionaire romance authors.

All the authors were so friendly, it was a really lovely atmosphere. Two of the ladies I spent time with write romantasy - a genre I enjoy reading, so I can’t wait to start their books.

As a new indie author, I’m looking forward to hearing from people who are further along the road, learning more about the business side of writing, and hopefully coming away with fresh ideas for how to reach the readers who love emotional, glamorous, high-stakes romance.
